Weekend Reading – Stuff we found interesting this week

Interesting Links

October 1st 24 2011 – AFL Grand Final day. Go Collingwood!!!

Welcome to our weekly roundup of the stuff we read that was interesting to us and hopefully to you.

Investors seem to be losing faith in stocks, or at least that is what the Wall Street Journal reported earlier in the week here. is this one of the preconditions for the market to begin to bottom? Probably but it might be a little early just yet given the economic outlook – we’ll watch out for a plethora of these types of articles as a sign though that the bottom is near.

Because the BRICs and their troubles are only just starting to get airplay and enter the mass of traders and investors consciousness. Here is a piece from the FT on the wobbly Chinese property bubble.

Speaking of ugly the quarters equity returns were not good here is a piece from CNN Money. The premis on the headline is wrong and speaks volumes of why we are still in this mess. “Stocks: Worst quarter since financial crisis”. Unfortunately that’s not true – this is the same play different act.

I love the first 3 paragraphs of this article “Can Europe be spared cascading collapse” from the Huffington Post last weekend. The whole article is worth the read and its premise and question is important. Link here

Paul Krugman is similarly unimpressed with the Europeans at the moment and wrote a piece titled “Eurozone death trip”. Link here.

Krugman had a great week – here is one on how Obama has been saddled with the previous administrations mess – well Paul it is politics and it didn’t have to be so if President Obama was a bit better at politics and my favourite for the week on why the study of economic history matters. It certainly had me and my clients ready for this mess of teh GFC.

Here is an important article I saw on Yve’s Smith’s brilliant blog  nakedcapitalism on why performance pay should get the sack. It is worth reading.

And of course the FT’s week in review

Have a great weekend
